Henry Ling is a Los Angeles–based guitarist and composer whose music bridges cultures and genres. Born in Tokyo, Japan, and raised in the U.S. with roots in Malaysia and Taiwan, Henry draws deeply from his multicultural background — crafting intricate, melodic acoustic pieces inspired by both modern Japanese music and Western fingerstyle guitar.

 

A classically trained violinist from the age of seven, Henry’s lifelong study of music theory and classical repertoire continues to shape his harmonic sensibilities today. His sound draws influence from acoustic virtuosos such as Kotaro Oshio, Tanaka Akihiro, and Sungha Jung, as well as composers like Joe Hisaishi, Nujabes, Polyphia, and Ravel — merging the lyricism of classical music with the rhythmic nuance of contemporary acoustic styles.

 

Beyond his solo work, Henry has performed as a session guitarist, writer, and touring musician, including as a substitute guitarist for the Grammy Award–winning group The String Revolution, performing at venues such as the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. He also provides elegant and atmospheric guitar music for weddings and events, tailoring his performances to create immersive, emotional experiences.Henry primarily performs on Antoine Dufour’s former Stonebridge guitar, handcrafted by František Furch — an instrument that embodies the warmth and precision of his sound.
